People think of massages as an extravagant luxury, but there are actually several health benefits to getting a message. Aside from stress-and-body-pain relief, massages help improve circulation and immunity. We hold patterns of stress in our bodies, asserts Eleanor Harris, a massage therapist at South Congress Massage, and massages help heal emotional, mental and physical layers of stress. Here are our picks for affordable and fulfilling massages.
South Congress has therapists who use various massage techniques depending on what your body needs. From deep tissue to light energy work, Eleanor Harris intuitively works to use the methods your body needs most. “The bodywork I do varies with where the body’s at,” Harris said. If you can’t afford a massage or can’t spare a single hour for yourself, Harris recommends deep breathing exercises as a short-term solution to stress. “Breath is a transformative tool,” Harris said. “Breath is life force; when you take it in, you charge your life force.”

"I has the great fortune to have a private yoga rope session with Eleanor Harris, a certified Iyengar Yoga instructor with more than 20 years experience. Eleanor coached me through an Iyengar yoga session utilizing the harness apparatus and several other yoga supports. The session was phenomenal and I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to increase their strength and flexibility through yoga. During a harness-assisted downward dog pose, my entire spinal column released, relieving tension, relaxing my back and allowing me to go deeper into the pose. I left that session with my back looser and more relaxed than is has been in months."
